The numerous children in the slums of Shalimar live in precarious conditions. Families with many children live crammed into small, makeshift huts. These huts stand close together. There are no sanitary facilities. Even water pumps are scarce. Electricity is only available to those who tap into it illegally. Privacy is nonexistent.
Many of the children of primary school age have never been to school. Others no longer attend. Many have to work. No one cares for them. Many assume a great deal of responsibility for their own lives and those of their families at a very young age. Many children still receive only one meal a day.
The children’s lives are dangerous in many ways. They play among trucks that load and unload tons of steel parts at the edge of the slum. It’s an extremely accident-prone place to play.
Often, these children have already experienced traumatic events at a young age. They live without prospects, safety, or protection. These children don’t know carefree play and learning.

Second Bridge e.V. provides children with a safe space. Primary school children can learn here through play. This accessible educational program supports children on their path to the public school system.
Social workers and teachers care for the children for several hours daily. Their interest and attention stimulate the children’s development and help them develop positive outlooks for their lives.
The children receive a hot meal every day as part of the project.
Alongside supporting the children, their families are also involved in the program.
Here we present our project.
Second Bridge sees itself as an initiative that aims to empower people to help themselves. Second Bridge strives to be independent of ideologies of any kind.
